Friday morning's news conference inside the now vacant building gave us a better explanation.... "all the parking lots will be re- paved, i even want to put a roller coaster that goes from the children's area all over this property." ideas that are all laid out on their brand new website to promote the resort and casino, show people what amenities would be available.and why this city needs a project like this.... but it's something that will take more than just convincing people like bristol, virginia city leaders "he has my 110 percent support, i know he has the council's support..." because as of now, casino- style gambling isn't legal in the state of virginia "and we need the virginia state legislatures here in southwest virginia, and then we need the general assembly to approve it." But back to that earlier question....why does bristol, virginia need this... mayor kevin mumpower answer...is that this community needs a boost... "This is emotional, the reason is this community has struggled for how long, years...this would be big for this community, our kids would benefit, our grandkids are going to benefit." mcglothlin adding that they will provide that boost by mcglothlin adding that they will mcglothlin told us funding for this project will come from private dollars. he said they're preparing to go before the general assembly in march. if they get approval to legalize casino-style gambling in virginia...he wants to open 18 months from that approval date, which he said would put them opening sometime in late 20-20 reporting live in bristol, virginia jordan moore newschannel 11 in your corner.
